I visited Casalingo during the Xmas period for the first time since moving from Yorhshire.

I did enjoy my meal very much, my family were so impressed that we will return and use the Restaurant as our favourite Italian in Brighton.

Went to Brighton recently and stumbled across the Casalingo just by chance. I have enjoyed many Italian meals previoulsy but cannot find better in this little gem of a restaurant.

The service was 100% and the atmosphere was perfect for a night out. Would highly reccomend to anyone passing Brighton to seek a table at the Casalingo.

We have been going to Casalingo for years now.

Angelo & his crew have always looked after us very well.

We think that Casalingo is the best Italian in town.

Many thanks for many years of satisfaction.

See you Tuesday week.

I took my fiancé to Casalingo for her birthday. Having read all the glowing reviews on here we were both very excited, at the possibility of eating some well cooked authentic Italian fare, served by friendly, attentive staff. I'm sad to say we both came away slightly disappointed. The place, like our evening was OK which was about the best we can really say. Perhaps following the reviews below our expectations were just too high.

The restaurant is tidy and simply decorated albeit in a slightly dated style (fairy lights, Italian landmark prints etc) but there was a nice ‘buzz’ in the place. The management endorsed graffiti on the arches and walls is also an endearing feature (and reflects that they do have loyal regulars who LOVE the place!).

The service was for us, one of the let downs. We were welcomed politely enough, our orders taken and the food reasonably quick in arriving. So far so good. However, after this they seemed to lose interest. We waited for approximately 20 minutes for our plates to be cleared (without any enquiry as to our enjoyment or desire for desert!) and then possibly another 15 for any further service, while the manager/owner paced up and down in front of our table and ignored our attempts to catch an eye. Eventually we too lost interest in a desert (a shame, was looking forward to a crème Brule!) and requested the bill. Again, no enquiry as to our enjoyment or any attempt at conversation at all. The manager/owner just put the chip and pin device on the table and walked away! Whilst it was Saturday night, and the place was full, we certainly did not get the impression that the staff were too busy to deal with us as they might have liked - it simply seemed like they did not care and preferred to put their efforts into the nearby table of six rather than our little twosome!

The food was also mediocre. Having only been to Italy once (for a long weekend), I am perhaps not qualified to say whether this is ‘authentically Italian’ (or any more/less so than the many other Italians in Brighton & Hove) but it was not great. For starters, I had the fruit which was OK tasting and presented (well it was fruit wasn’t it!). My fiance went for the fried seafood, mainly as it had her favourite, whitebait. The whitebait was oversalted and oily, the prawns seemed as if they had been frozen rather fresh and was oily, the calamari was just plain oily! For mains I had the veal (a little overcooked) with a mushroom sauce (lacking in favour) and some rather uninspiring veg (for which I was charged extra). My partner had the lasagne which was OK, if a little dry. As discussed, we would have loved to report on the deserts, but never mind!

Therefore, whilst it wasn’t the worst night out we have had, and the food was OK., we wont be going back to Casalingo and we quite suprised by the raves we had read here and elsewhere. ‘Hidden’ - maybe but ‘Gem’ no .

We are following the introduction of " scores on the door" from Brighton & Hove city council and have noticed that Casalingo had 4 stars on his doors. We visited the restaurant on friday the 5th of October on our way to see Billy Connoly at the Brighton centre. We were so impressed by the way we were welcome and made feel like the only diners in a very busy dining room. The gentleman that greeted us turned out to be the proprietor, a very knowledgeble maitre d' Hotel with vast experience in hospitality. he was the one that suggested that since we were in a hurry to go to the show that we should have come back for a cupper before driving home, we did just that and had 4 desserts at the same time, the Banoffi pie is to die for!!! The restaurant was still buzzing at 10.45 pm. There is such of an Italian atmosphere with waiters talking to each others in their language, the music is romantic and the food has been an experience, in our mind this is the best Italian restaurant in Brighton and we will visit again at the early opportunity.

Well done to all involved.

We were intrigued to try this place after reading so many great reviews and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was buzzing, the service was slick and very friendly and the food was excellent. All in all a wonderful dining experience. Just can't wait for an excuse to go back!

Jammed in between two big steak houses, we have always missed Casalingo.

What a shame!!!

We have been living in Brighton for the past 18 months and on tuesday we discovered this exceptional Italian Restaurant.

The food was yummy, served efficiently by a young man that never stopped smiling, it was obvious he enjoyed his job, we noticed he was tucking in a huge plate of pasta in a corner table at the end of our meal, we were the last couple in the restaurant. The athmospere was truly Italian, the chatting between the waiters made you feel you were in Tuscany somewhere.

We will recommend the Casalingo as the best Italian in the city.

Thank you all for a very nice evening.
