The Brasserie

Fourteen of us ate on Friday 13 June. Very relaxed atmosphere. Waiters very friendly and nothing too much trouble. We had a variety of mealsbetween us, from fish, meat, pasta and vegetarian and there were no grumbles from any of us. We sat down at 8 and left after 11pm but we were not rushed at all. It is a bit pricey but you don't have to have the most expensive item on the menu! Would definitely return.

Had the misfortune to eat at The Brasserie last night. The food was very good though somewhat over-priced. The service was unbelievable! I don't know if all the waiters hate their jobs or if we just caught them on a VERY bad day. Service with a smile..................not at this restaurant, and as for slow! Surly and verging on rude we all felt very uncomfortable and obviously will not be eating there again.

Expensive but money WELL spent. Great seafood selection, had a fish food selection platter on one occasion and got to try some of the best fish I have ever tasted. All fish well done and all had such an individual texture and taste to them it is worth it to go there, trust me. The swordfish is my favorite and was the best ive ever had it before! Would defiantly recommend it, great atmosphere and staff is very friendly.

Great service, fabulous food and real value for money. It's not cheap, but the quality of the food reflects that, and you get really generous portions.

Very nice setting and friendly staff. My crab with orange was a lovely starter; fresh, tasty white meat presented in the shell with fresh orange segments and a little pot of marie rose sauce sitting by the salad. My husband went on the lunchtime special and enjoyed the tuna and prawn salad starter. He said that the cod & chips were tasty, albeit, the fish had been frozen and didn't appear to have been prepared in house. I was extremely disappointed with my scallop main course. They were presented beautifully in the shell on top of wilted baby spinach. However, they were obviously defrosted not fresh, not cleaned properly (the bowel has to be removed) and not very good quality. On another table, placed uncomfortably closely, a nice couple (fortunately for us) had lobster to start and mixed fish platters for main. Both looked superb, and should have done, as they were expensive choices. For the ambience, atmosphere, and friendly service, we would return, but not in a rush!

I've eaten here about a dozen times now and have to say it really is very good. One thing I do like is the fact that they don't look down their noses at you if you just stick to the bargain 2 course set menu rather than go a la carte. Food is excellent - love the fish chowder - as are the service and setting. Can't fault it really.
