The meal was great, though the service a bit slow for a quiet Monday. We were doing fine until two of our party questioned the make-up of the Irish Coffee. Both being Irish, one a publican, we thought their advice would be welcomed cheerily, but no the manager was very affronted and rude. Evening rather spoilt.

Visited a couple of Monday's ago, when the main course is half price in the evening. A lamb special, cumin potatoes, mushroom rice and garlic naan was ordered. Despite previous advice to them several times that the currys being produced were too dry, the lamb curry we chose (one of their specials) was so dry that there was no excess gravy at all. It came out of the dish in a very unattractive lump. Despite the lamb being very tender, we did not enjoy it. Not only was it far too dry, it tasted as though the spices had not been fried properly, and produced a "raw" flavour. The cumin potatoes also ordered as a main dish had exactly the same problem, only much worse and were inedible. The side dishes were fine. When the table was cleared no-one asked why the potatoes had barely been touched and we were not asked if all was well. Very disappointing, and even with half price mains not a cheap option, and no point if the food isn't to be cooked properly.

Spent last Friday night in the Sri Indian in response to a mail shot of their menu. I must say after experiencing the 'usual suspects’ of the Central Brighton Curry Houses, this was a major breath of fresh air, The starters were very good, enough to satisfy but not too much to take away the hunger that the main course would no doubt deal with !

The chicken we had was exceptionally well cooked - probably the best I have had for some time and the portions were in my opinion more than usually expected elsewhere. My partner is not too keen on a lot of spice so she went for a Kebab and I had a full blown hot chicken curry - both were as we hoped - just right....

The service was attentive, the atmosphere bright and airy and when we left at around 8.30 - it was full - testament indeed to a very good restaurant - we'll be back!

We have visited this restaurant many times, both as Spice Paradise and Sri India. There is one member of staff who is a great personality - he is excellent at greeting and always makes you feel like his mate. The other staff are also friendly, but not so on the ball as this chap.

The food when it was Spice Paradise was pretty run of the mill, but good. We were never disappointed. Now there is something a little different about everything, flavours are excellent and it is a little more gourmet than your average take-away joint. Most dishes seem to be a little spicier than previously, but the flavours and quality of dishes are great. There is a new rice on the menu which is absolutely gorgeous!

It's such a shame that there never seems to be much of an atmosphere in there since the refurb.

Definately worth a try - it's great for us peeps up in Hollingbury!

I revisited the Restuarant on the 27th December with a party of five people and would make the following comment.

The tv has gone which is a good thing.

They had different chefs working that night than on previous occassions I have been and the food was much better, they have got the spices and strength of the curry perfect and I will be returning soon.

The service is just as good and the waiters are very polite and helpful.

The Spice Paradise was good but following the refurbishment, new chef and new menu - Sri India is even better.

The decor is tasteful. The food is great.

The Sunday buffet is fresh with different dishes on offer.

Overall - great!!!

Sri India Restaurant

I was pleased to see the restaurant reopened after the long wait. However I have visited on three occasions and will not be in a hurry to return.

The restaurant and kitchen are very nice and they have spent a lot of money on the fixtures and fitings but the food is not as good as when it was Spice Paradise. On one occasion we visited we waited 1 hour for starters and the main dishes were meant to be medium but they were more madras strength and they seem to be to spicy and hot.

I have heard many people saying they are not happy and maybe the chef will take note of the comments people are saying and tame down the spices.

Now called the Sri India after a year of major refurbishment, In my opinion it is now a much improved establishment. The interior is light, airy and minimalist, with an open kitchen that gives confidence to diners. I would however, get rid of the plasma screen on the wall showing bollywood movies (no sound). It's an unwanted distraction and even more infuriatingly jumps like crazy.

The food offered is described as fusion; I don't know about that, but there are plenty of unusual dishes on offer, plus most of the usual suspects. After a nibble on a couple of poppadums, we ordered a lamb and also a chicken dish that we had never heard of before (sorry can't remember the names). After a fairly long wait, about 40 minutes, we were more than ready to eat the impressive looking mains. They were both fairly spicy, and very tasty, especially the chicken. All the lamb was tender, lean, with no fat, and therefore could be eaten without having to suspiciously prod each piece before eating, as in so many other eateries. Even the mushroom rice to accompany was full of flavour. The service was friendly and efficient; I don't think 40 minutes is a long time to wait for freshly prepared food, and early on a Friday evening the restaurant was already buzzing with happy eaters. We'll be back!
