Indian Summer
your comments review this restaurant
If the Cinnamon club, Bombay brasserie or any of the so called top London Indian restaurants moved to Brighton , Indian Summer would still be number 1 .
Definatley worthy of at least 1 Michelin Star , the staff the food the atmosphere, all bar a bit noisy when we went there due to a large party at the front half, all exceptional.
Well done......l

Ignore the negative comments below this place is fab. Whilst it might not be authentic (no idea having never been to India) the food is tasty, average prices for Brighton and good front of house. I wanted all the starters, and most of the mains. Lovely.

I cannot tell you how much I disagree with the previous review by S. Singh. I to am Indian and I find his/her review ridiculious.
The menu here has 9 or 10 starters, far more than most restaurants i visit, with all but 2 of them being suitable for vegetarians.
The soup before starter is a lovely touch (which has been different each time i have visited) to get your mouth watering.
The main courses i have had have been fantastic, especially when i have asked for them to be spiced up. Without the extra spice the food would not be quite hot enough for my palate: this is not a critisism but a reflection on my taste !
Another problem i have with S. Singh is the reference to non Indian staff. I find it a joy to see English people passionate about learning and serving food from my culture. They are always friendly and knowledgeable and make it clear that the chefs are all Indian.
The stereotype view that has been expressed about Indian staff in Indian restaurants and Chinese staff in Chinese restaurants is offensive to me ! does that mean that only White English people should be allowed to work in Pubs or cafes !
Indian Summer appear to be trying something different which really works well in my opinion.
The modern presentation will never please some Indians but i am one who enjoys this contemporary approach to my cuisine.

Whilst I empathise with the last review posted here by S.Singh who gave this place some stern criticism I should warn people not to go to Indian Summer expecting your standard Indian restaurant fayre and prices.
I too am Indian and although the food was different it wasn't entirely bad. A little under-seasoned for my palate but you're never going to get home-cooked India food in a restaurant unless you're eating in a dhaba-style restaurant where there is a large Indian community.
It is comparatively expensive and I was a little unsure of the some of the food partnerings on my plate and the roti was a little overdone.
I am in two minds as to whether I would go here again but recommend trying it for some of the great little touches and the originality of the food (they call it authenticity and I am not knowledgeable enough to disagree).

Encouraged by the other reviews we thought that it would be great to take the kids to sample what was billed as Brighton’s finest Indian restaurant. Being Indian what better judges could you have? I was surprised to see that the restaurant is actually staffed by non-Indians. They could not even pronounce the menu correctly! Not wanting to be politically incorrect but that’s like having non-Chinese working in a Chinese restaurant!
The food was pretentious and the little starter of Dhal in an espresso cup with a stale savoury somosa (made by Halidraam by the way and available in most Indian food shops) was sheer nonsense. This is not Indian food at its best as billed!
The menu only has approx 5-6 starters and main courses and they do not even serve naan bread! The roti was undercooked and I sent it back. Never have I come across such bland cooking. A pot noodle has more spice in it. Indian cooking is all about the spices and for £62 for 2 adults and 3 small children (no alcohol) is nothing short of daylight robbery. The only thing authentic in this restaurant is the bill, which is guaranteed to wish you had opted for fish and chips on the pier. Sorry but this place should be closed under the Trade Standards Act. All the reviews appear to be written by non-Indians with bland stomachs who are duped into believing that this is what Indian food is supposed to taste like. Well I’m sorry its not!

After reading the reviews on this site, my husband and I decided to try Indian Summer out as we love a curry. We were not disappointed. The food was beautiful and the service, excellent - even the toilets were pleasing! Definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back.

I loved this place!! A modern Indian restaurant - keeping the authentic flavours from the traditional cuisine, and adding new and exciting twists! There were no greasy dishes, the palate cleasing drinks were a superb idea, and the waiting staff very friendly and knowledgeable of their food.
The atmosphere was excellent (the restaurant was fully booked) and even so, we did not wait long for our food.
A definate must for curry fans in the Brighton area :-)

Loved the eating experience here - it was superb. Delicious, different and non-oliy food, with attentive and friendly staff. We sat in the restaurant for hours slowly enjoying the sumptuous food and atmosphere. Indian food with a healthier, more unique twist. BIg thumbs up.

Went on Wednesday 16 September. As usual, the food is great, and the service from the maitre d' was excellent, even though they were busy and a little understaffed. It's a real shame they closed the branch in Hove.
Don't expect the ghee-laden and over-salted stuff of normal Indian restaurants, and don't expect to come out feeling like a bloated whale. Do expect smaller portion of non-oily food that's significantly better tasting and better presented.
