I would just like to pop a review in about the restaurant we went to last night call the Vineyard Steakhouse on Preston Street.

It was great to actually find an old fashioned, top service restaurant, and we feel both the meal and the atmosphere in the Vineyard Steakhouse were lovely.

Apparently the restaurant has been around for years, and when you see how many other restaurants have closed down Preston Street, it is a credit to them at the Vineyard Streakhouse that they are not just open but are busy as well.

We chose the meze - and the food literally kept on coming all night. The meze is an easy choice for me as I have to make decisions all day, so when it comes to eating, a meze with a choice of tasters of everything is an easy decision!

I like the Greek wine Aphrodite, but each to his own and it's good and cheap in the restaurant

So all in all a great night out and I had a very sweet conversation with the owner who was absolutlely lovely and a credit to the restaurant.

Highly recommended!

My girlfriend and I chanced upon the Vineyard Steakhouse whilst in Brighton for the day. Appearances can often be deceptive so we weren't put off by the shabby exterior of the place, and there were other diners already inside which is generally a good sign. Sadly, the food was poor to say the least. The 'sauteed' potatoes were raw inside and had quite obviously been fried in very old oil judging by the look of them. The Vegetarian Moussaka was extremely bland, and gave the distinct impression that it had been cooked some time ago and chucked into the microwave for a few minutes. The hummus was flavorless, and the vegetables rock hard. The night before we had eaten at the Lantern Taverna, Ealing Common, London - if you're ever around that way, check it out. The food there was delicious so perhaps we were kidding ourselves that we could get another Greek meal on the same par. However, we were prepared to pay and be on our way when the rather abrubt waitress (whom I suspect is also the chef, certainly on this day anyway) curtly asked my girlfriend why she hadn't finished her meal. She explained to her what she thought and wasn't given anything more than a huffed "you're wrong", whereupon she went back to the kitchen and started loudly scraping the food into the bin and and washing up. In this time the cd had been skipping for a few minutes in the middle of one track and the older lady working in the place was just sat on a chair staring at us. Being now the only people left in the restaurant (unsuprisingly) the whole atmosphere was very awkward and we quickly paid and left. We assumed that perhaps the lady was just having a bad day at the office, but after reading many reviews on the internet, it seems we're not the only people who had a bad experience. I can only advise the owners that should they want to encourage people back they should not only put more time and effort into the meals they are preparing, but also learn how to take a valid criticism.

I've been going to this restaurant on and off for about ten years now, one of things I like most is the relaxed, friendly atmosphere, its like being in someone's living room. The staff are really friendly and the food is amazing - if you're not sure what to order the Kleftico is always amazing.

It sounds from some of the other reviews that some people do not appreciate the relaxed atmosphere, if you like something more formal this place is not for you...as for the plastic plates, well I don't remember them, but what difference does that make to the food anyway?!

Came here for the weekend with my husband but before we did we had a look at the reviews a bit of good and not so good but to be honest that is one thing we do not go by .So off we went and i must say we are so glad we did the plastic plates with the map of cyprus was fun to look at and we could see where we had gone and that brought back fab memories . And the food made up for the momories too .Two people sitting next to us were having steaks and they told us it was absolutely lovely so as a special treat we are going back to have a steak and enjoy the lovely welcome we recieved from the owners and daughter who i must say made us laugh and made our night even more enjoyable

Me and my girlfriend ate here last weekend and we chose this place as it looked intimate and unpretentious as far as the interior goes.

When we were shown to our table I started to notice a strange smell but couldn't put my finger on it, until I noticed splashes of food and drink on the wall next to where we were sat. We tried to overlook this and hoped that the food would make up for this. Wrong! when the starters came they arrived on plastic plates!! I have never eaten in a restaurant ever from a plastic plate....whats all that about!! The salad was limp and in some cases dry and had gone brown!! also it was overwhelmed with corriander. The lamb was tough and had that funny aftertaste that other people have mentioned on this site. When I mentioned some of these things to the waitress there was no response, nothing said...nothing, no apology, no explanation, no discount, nothing, and they charged us £50 with service charge!!

We couldn't wait to leave and will never go back - does anyone else feel the same about the plastic plates! it made feel like I was 12 years old having tea at my gran's house!!

A Little Corner of Cyprus on our doorstep.

I wondered whether there was a restaurant in Brighton, which was authentic and served genuine Greek food.

Well, purely by accident I happened upon such a restaurant in Preston Street. I was with my family, and we were all feeling rather hungry. As soon as I saw the restaurant I knew we had to go in.

Well, what an experience! The waitress there was very welcoming, as was the owner, Helen. The surroundings were unpretentious, and rather homely. It was fairly busy, so we hoped that we wouldn't have to wait too long to be served. And we didn't. The waitress was very attentive, and recommended their speciality - the Meze!

We all decided to go for it. This is a selection of various Greek dishes. Well the food didn't stop arriving. The first course was a mixture of; Houmous, Taramasalata, Tziki, Stuffed Vine Leaves, and various other wonderful starters. The Kleftico that followed, was sublime and melted in the mouth, it's better than anything I've ever had before. And as for the Mousakka - this was a delight on the taste buds.

I have to say that my expectations of finding somewhere that would suit, were truly surpassed. Helen and her family made us feel that we were the only customers in the restaurant. And that's a credit to them.

Please go along for our corner of Cyprus in Brighton - you won't regret it! Yasoo!

Myself and a few 'Hens' went there for a meal, 2 of us did not like coriander and our meal and salad were smothered in it. Should be clear what is in salad. We paid $1.50 for vegetables only to have loads of peas stuck on the plate.

The guy in there was creepy as he kept sitting on the table next to us and looking at us, then when he started to cough (the horrible nasty smokers cough) while he was sitting next to us we all just had to leave our meal and get out. Talk about making you feel sick.

Don't be fooled, the restaurant looks good and we were expecting something really nice.

And they had the cheek to put 10% service charge on.
