Two friends from Edinburgh were visiting for the weekend so we wanted to take them to a place we trust. We were not disappointed! When we arrived we couldn't decide whether to sit out or in as it was quite warm. As we had booked a table we decided to sit in but she said we could change our mind later if we wanted. The food was absolutely delicious. Our friends were most impressed with the king prawn starter. I am vegetarian and sometimes feel I miss out in restaurants. This is never the case in The House. I ordered a baked mushroom crepe and it was quite honestly the nicest meal I have ever had. I hope it is still on the menu the next time I come!! The steaks were, apparently, cooked to perfection and the service we received from beginning to end was faultless.

A really fabulous night was had by all. Many thanks to all the staff at The House! We will be back!!

This has to be my worst dining experience for a decade. Having waited 55mins for starters and then be presented with the main course, when they finally arrived the starters were mediocre and lack lustre. The waiter that had just cleared the starter plates then asked if we want dessert menus. He then made a limp excuse about us maybe wanting to order in advance and then started arguing with us about the mains and we had to tell him to stop arguing with us and to go away. When the mains did arrive they looked ok but my plaice had not been cleaned or cooked properly. Some of the vegetables were so undercooked that you could have used them to break windows. They offered to discount a bottle of wine as an apology only to forget to take it off the bill when they presented it. Bad organisation, incompetent and untrained staff. A disgrace.

Went to The House with my boyfriend on Saturday night for my birthday. I have lived in Brighton for seven years and didn't even know about The House but was recommended by a friend at college. We had a super night...the food was really tasty. I had the chicken wrapped in parma ham and my boyfriend had a fillet steak. The steak was cooked to perfection. Our starters of pear date and walnut salad and also calamari were really good too. The staff are attentive but not OTT and the whole vibe was very relaxed and chilled. Now I know where The House is I'll definitely be back...it offers something really quite different in that part of town and its ideal for a special cosy meal out for two. Loved it.

Nice atmosphere, waitress very nice until she had an argument with her boyfriend in the bar. The duck rolls with chilli sauce were delicious as was the squid and the crab and salmon rillettes. The seabass was delicious but unfortunately my daughter`s Fish Pie was very very dry and needed a lot more sauce. Wouldn`t go back in a hurry. Overpriced.

I went to The House because it was recommended from a friend. We booked a Christmas Do there for 8 so had our own room upstairs. I was really impressed with the room and the atmosphere and at £23 for 3 courses didnt think it was excessively priced but unfortunately it went down hill from there...the starter was pumpkin soup for me, very nice but not very hot, then i had traditional xmas dinner and I don't think ive ever had turkey that had so much spice in it! One of my fellow diners had the fish which wasnt even luke warm. The pudding was meant to be chocolate mousse. it came out in a small coffee cup and was just a cup of white cream, not as described at all! to be fair they replaced this with sorbet which was very nice but i did notice how they added several items to the bill that werent ordered probably because we moaned!! the staff were ok, not outstanding though. we didnt have to wait too long for food but then that should be expected as its a tiny restaurant even when full! Nope, i wont be taking any friends back there again!!!

... and I've never left a review before. The starter consisted of four prawns costing nearly eight pounds i.e. £2 each. On mentioning that there were lots of empty shells to the manager who is not a particularly friendly chap he just said the prawns came out of them. Very expensive for what we received. We spent £84 for two people. Lucky we were on holiday so don't have to go there again.

I'm afraid to say I will not be returning to "The House". I've never left a review before but I feel it's warranted on this occasion as the food, service, and general experience was a real let-down. The service was slow, the food well below average (with above average prices!) and the bill contained items that were ordered but never received....which is very annoying bearing in mind I'd asked the manager to ensure we were not charged for them. In addition to this our party were celebrating a birthday so we had asked for a cake to be brought to the table which did not happen until the staff were prompted. They then offered a discount to the person celebrating their birthday after asking for proof of their date of birth and then, after checking the ID, they withdrew the offer as his birthday was the next day....charming!! I cannot recommend an alternative but I'd give this place a wide berth.

Fantastic restaurant - wonderful ambience, friendly waiters and waitresses providing excellent service, superb quality of food and the opportunity to sit outside should the weather allow. I would certainly recommend the king prawns to start and the fillet steak for main.

Stumbled upon The House last Saturday night. Great cosy little place for couples or a group of friends. We were a group of five and it was getting late - everywhere else seemed packed. The friendly staff welcomed us in and although the main restaurant was full, they let us have the private dining room - bonus! Although the room can probably accommodate about ten people - we were very chuffed and got to have our own little private party - so it was just as well since we got really merry.

The steaks were delicious - melt in the mouth fillet and deliciously cooked. Pepper sauce was especially superb. All served with yummy fresh veggies and chips. One person had the seafood pasta which turned out to be really bland and when we complained the waiter immediately offered to remove it from the bill. Good wines, Irish coffees and I had a divine chocolate crepe for pud.

All in all a great night and I would happily go back there with a group of mates or for a casual dinner with my husband.
