We went to this Restaurant on Sat .... Group of 6 . When we arrived the staff were friendly. 2 of the food orders came out wrong so we had to send them back by which half the table had finished their food when the correct order came back out. We then ordered 3 beers ....... they never arrived !!! The house fillet costing £17.50 was dry and 1 very small portion of chips only to share between 2 which we had eaten whilst waiting for our main meals to return. The waitress was very apologetic which was nice we were offered a free bottle of wine and shots all round. We did not want more drink half of the group was driving so we said to just remove the 2 bottles of wine off the bill . She could not do this .... so we requested to speak to the manager . The manager was very rude and said she could only offer more drink which we did not want and more to the point would have cost more for the restaurant than the 2 bottles of wine. Eventually the Manager agreed to deduct the wine off the bill.... after which she said we was no longer welcome back to the restaurant and wanted us to leave. We paid the bill and before we could get up out of our seats a waitress came and counted the cash in front of us to make sure it was all there.. Disgusting behaviour and patronising . The waitress's did not receive any tip due to the attitude of the manager. As a paying customer you would not expect to be treated like this in a reputable restaurant. I have no problem paying any amount for good food and service this was definitely not the case. Not to worry we will not be returning.

This is the first time i have ever put a review on a restaurant as i felt so strongly about how it was dealt with.

We had a really great meal here on saturday night. we were a party of 8, and the food, atmosphere and service were all excellent.

I can personally recommend the Steak Ischitana (I think that's how it was spelt) which came cooked how I asked for it, with proper, hand-cut chips, not frozen, but made from real potatoes! Its the little details like this that make this a restaurant that I will always be happy to go back to.

Other dishes of note were the Fish Stew, and the Antipasti starter to share, which looked really nice (but I wasn't allowed to try it!)

It's worth noting that the staff are very good - they don't seem to have a large turnover of waiting staff, and it shows by their experience and professionalism.

I'd thoroughly recommend a visit here, whether it is for a group or a romantic meal for two.

This, in my opinion, is one of Brighton's best kept gem restaurants! The staff are friendly, the food fantastic, the setting inside is quaint and gorgeous and outside in the summer (whilst listening to the buskers) you could be a million miles away! Me and my husband have eaten here numerous times, from big christmas do's (lush beef wellington!) to intimate dinners and i have to say it's one of my favourites!

I organised a hen do for a group of 9 back in June 2009. We had to choose from the £20, 3 course menu, yet the £15 menu we felt had a better selection. We ordered in advance and I had reserved a room which was fab. (though hours before I was told this wasn't the case but with some friendly discussions we got it sorted) The food was ok. Those that had the deep fried brie were astounded by the huge lump of cheese but very little sauce came with it and the prawn starter was very small. I paid extra for beef wellington which didn't win any prizes for presentation (burnt round the edges) but was reasonable.

Desserts were a little on the small size. The waitress was very friendly and helpful but I did feel the food was mediocre which is a shame as for groups it is an ideal place to go.

Superficially appealing, House has some unfortunate & very basic shortcomings like bent cutlery, dirty wine glasses, paper serviettes, & poor cooking.

Uncleaned mussels were served in the moules mariniere, a quarter or more of which were closed-shelled & therefore inedible. The sauce was a watery disappointment, devoid of parsley & possibly even wine. When I explained to the waitress that I'd finished with my bowl of mussels because they hadn't been cleaned I was met with disinterest & no explanation or apology.

The main course was a mediocre rendition of steak au poivre (their 'Peppered Fillet Steak') cooked medium but which I requested blue. We didn't remain for puddings or coffee.

West End prices for poor to mediocre fare which, for my 40th birthday meal, was a startling let down. I couldn't possibly recommend this restaurant to anyone.

It's nice inside and the service is good but the food I had with my 3 friends wasn't great. Flavourless, uncooked mushrooms as a starter were taken off the bill, stale ungarlicky garlic bread was eaten out of hunger but not enjoyed. The duck starter was beautifully presented but a bit bland. Fish stew was good but came with a missed closed mussel (and more of the tasteless bread). The fish in the fish & chips was very fresh, pizza was good, chips very over priced at £2.25 for about 10 of them. I had the chicken with parma ham and sage mash... the chicken was very very dry. Plus a bottle of sparkling water at £3.70 was a bit much. Wouldn't recommend, didn't feel like there was good value or attention to detail in the food. Plus, we had to ask for our change even though service was automatically added to the bill... I hate it when they do that.
