As a customer, I would advise anybody considering this restaurant to avoid it. Food, attitude, atmosphere and service are all 0/10. Even the much-praised view isn't anything special, just a view of the amusements on Brighton Pier from a height of 60 feet.

Really nice meal, lovely Mezze plate to start followed by gorgeous Seafood Platter. Lovely Bottle of Sancerre with view to die for. Exceptional service by Christian our waiter, really helpful and attentive, thouroughly enjoyable experience and a vast improvement on previous visits!!!

I smiled, I said please and thank you. The staff were still rude and slow and the food was still poor.

I have visited several times over the last few weeks and have enjoyed every one of them. The atmoshere is one of quiet sophistication, you won't find children running around here. A place for adults to chat over their meals and to appreciate the wonderful views. the greek/french menu seems to be in balance and the chance to try something a little different. The staff have always greeted me with a smile and been helpful, but then, I always greet them with a smile and I always say, please and thank you. Top marks from me then.

I have have had several meals lately and have found them all to be first class. The staff have been most helpful and pleasant, a relaxed atmosphere for all to enjoy. I will continue to have meals there and will greet the staff, as they greet me, with a nice warm smile.

The "manager" of the place is absolutely crazy! From the first minute you could feel sarkasm and arrogance! I asked if the mussels could have any trace of fish because I am very allergic to it. His reply was "outstanding" - that mussels live and feed in the sea, so they are the same as fish!!! What a knowledge!

After having champagne, we waited for wines like 15 min and he got it wrong, and ponted out that we want chardonnay wine - "the french one"? We could feel he is being mad just because my friends speak french and he got it all wrong! WE WERE ASKED TO LEAVE! After he got 4 carlsbergs and forgot one bud!!! What an experience! :)

I visited Brighton on 5th of May and met up with some friends who lived locally. They recommended Terraces, although they hadn't been for several months. I was "greeted" by the manager on arrival who appeared determined to turn away customers. The couple waiting in front of me were rejected as they only wanted a drink and snacks. i was admitted when I assured him I would have lunch and taken to the far side of the terrace where I was ignored for 15 minutes. When my friends arrived they were subjected to the same entry procedures. Needless to say, the place was almost entirely empty. Eventually we had to leave our seats to find a waitress (who was highly offended at being asked to take our order). Food was appalling. The "salad boards" consist mainly of shredded, undressed salad leaves and are served on cracked wooden boards- a great way to transmit bacteria. The greek salad board includes whitebait deepfried to the point of brittleness. At one point a huge parasol beside us blew over, landing on an infants head. The child's mother propped the umbrella up and brought it to the manager's attention. He said "we must do something about it" and walked off. On the plus side, it was so bad it was entertaining.

Dear reviewers, i hope the site will not be offended if i leave a comment of my own, as it may dispel some myths and answer some question about the changes at The Terraces.

We have for some time been struggling with our identity, and have received many comments as to what our product is, for some people we are seen as a community coffee shop, and for others a restaurant, not to mention our very successful function suits. this has all become very confusing.

In answer to lots of requests and suggestions from our local based communities we drew the conclusion that people prefer we concentrate on one particular aspect of the business, an aspect which was slightly neglected and that was food.

We have put in place a new and very well received menu offering we believe something for everyone, with excellent specials and more importantly every dish is prepared freshly in house by a great team of chefs who really hit the ground running with this initiative ! We have also updated our function menus, also very well received , especially by the people who have already made bookings, through to august 2009 as they are excited that the menu will be fresh and up to date.

we concentrate on food service between 12pm till 3pm and 6pm till 11pm,

although we still welcome guests for coffees and drinks in the mornings and afternoon's, our home made desserts have been a terrific hit with afternoon coffee.

We apologise to any of our regular customers who feel the changes are not suited to them, but perhaps one day when you are looking for a place with great food and professional service you will give us a try, we think you will like it.

like Tduggan, I too have been here many times. The service has been slow but the views make the consequently longer stay here worthwhile.

Alas, here's the message I sent to the Company after my last visit:

"After a great day out in Brighton, I suggested to some friends that we round off with a coffee and a drink upstairs at Terraces before we left for home. The weather was great, the view tremendous as we sat down at 3.15pm [on 19 Feb 08] - but what a let down. Despite there being hardly anyone else around, your staff refused to serve anything unless we ordered food. Now, I should point out that our group was a respectable party of four 50+ s - not some undesirables etc.

The staff [there were 3 all doing nothing - since they had no other customers to speak of] - were a bit apologetic but said it was management policy. I asked if I could speak to the manager, but was told there was no point - all they'd say was that his name was Karl.

So we left and went on to Cafe Rouge which got our business rather than your company. I'm sorry about this, because I have been coming to Terraces for several years - usually for a meal. Not sure now I'll be coming back and subject to your response will post a message to this effect on the Web in due course. But, then perhaps you aren't aware of what is going on and why your local manager is turning business away from a deserted venue whilst still paying for staff."

2 weeks after sending this, I've had no response from either the Company or Karl, so draw your own conclusions and visit this place without any expectations of service. So no points at all awarded on 3 counts.
