Café Puccino’s

Pretty bad. Went at lunchtime and were just expecting basic "caff" food but were still disappointed. I had an omelette that had black flecks in it (from the pan?) and the egg mixture was all wrong- greasy, and overcooked. My boyfriend had a "Mediteranean plate" (or something) - some tiny bits of pitta, some ersatz houmous and some dry (canned?) olives. (All overpriced for what we got). The waitress was nice but pretty clueless and only spoke very basic English and when we complained they were good enough to knock a little off the bill but didn't apologise or really seem to care.

Dear god. Popped in here for lunch today, a busy day due to the childrens parade. Should have realised by the fact that only half of the tables were busy that things had changed since I last visited a couple of years ago.

After 45 minutes of waiting (bearing in mind there weren't that many people there)

our food arrived. My chicken caesar salad almost made me cry. It's not rocket science after all. Advertised in the menu as chicken caesar with croutons, parmesan and little gem lettuce, what arrived was oily fried chicken on a mixed and sad frisee lettuce, drowned in what looked like a balsamic dressing. I sent it back, went without and shared my friend's tuna ciabatta- very wet tuna with an interesting mix of water and mayonnaise. Her daughter had squid and shoestring chips- not shoe string though, just thinnish. For 2 cokes, one coffee, a ciabatta and chips and squid rings (from the tapas selection so small portion) and chips, £17. Half an apology for the fact that my food was not only awful but just plain wrong. They didn't exactly bend over backwards to put things right, even when I said I would never go there again and would recommend others against it. Brighton has so much to offer on the food front, perhaps the chef was ill and had a stand in, who knows.
