A lovely dining experience, we were made to feel very welcome even coming in at half past ten.

We had the traditional sort of food most Brits would at a chinese - mixed starters, duck pancakes, special fried rice, sweet and sour pork fillet and crispy beef. All were absolutely lovely. I have to say, the pork fillet was the best I have ever tasted. Service was impeccable and attentive without being too overbearing. I can't wait to return!

This has become a regular choice for myself and my girlfriend. Up until recently Good Friends had what we christened the “Secret Menu” as this was only available in Chinese. Fortunately for me, my Chinese girlfriend translated this for me and we were both able to enjoy the authentic Chinese delicacies which are not typically available elsewhere.

The good news for everyone is that now that the “Secret Menu” has been translated to English and is available to all.

Of course the Westernised Chinese menu is available with the familiar dishes such as Crispy Duck and Sweet and Sour Chicken, however I would strongly recommend trying something more authentic (perhaps even the duck webs or the fish lips!).

It is interesting peering into the window of China Garden up the road where typically 90% of the diners are white whereas at Good Friends I often find myself the only white person in the restaurant. Perhaps, a clear indication of where the Chinese community prefer to eat out.

My personal recommendations are the aubergine and pork hot pot and the sprouting pea shoots. Delicious! The service is great and the prices are reasonable.

You will probably see me and my girlfriend there once a week – I love it and it gives her a real taste of home.

I am also pleased to read that this place won an award recently for hygiene unlike many of the other restaurants on Preston Street which have received warnings!

I would say it is the best chinese restaraunt in the whole area... now that the english menus came out it make life a lot easier, i always go there when ever i have time. the atmosphere there is amazing, you can easily make friends with the owner there and the waitresses are so friendly. They are simply the best i have ever tasted.

Highly Recomended to all who likes chinese food

Good Friends is definetly my 1st choice when it comes to Chinese food. The food is very authentic and excellent, reasonably priced and very, very fresh and tasty. I recently moved to Brighton from Hong Kong and nothing satisfied my Chinese food cravings until I found this restaurant. They have a great menu to choose from and finally they have "all the traditional dishes" as well on the English menu. All in all, I feel home when I eat at Good Friends.

Easily one of the best restaurant in Brighton.

Actually I'd even go as far as it is the best.

Been going there for years and been recommended by my Chinese friends over and over.

It is a shame that some of the best dishes they have is not available on English menu. Some of the things, I only got to know because of my friends.

My recommendations are:-

Their roast ducks are to die for

Beef Brisket in hotpot. PEople fell in love with it.

MafaTofu

Spicy pork and Aubergine hotpot

Bo Chai Fan with Pork Belly

Always make a bee-line for this reataurant when away from Cardiff on business (assuming I don't fancy an Indian !). Superb food freshly cooked and piping hot. Frequented by many Chinese diners so what more of a recommendation do you need ? The service is friendly, efficient and if you ask for a break between courses they are more than happy to oblige. My only gripe is the 'discretionary' 10% service charge that is automatically added to your bill. I don't ask for them to remove it but hope that the chefs and waiting staff see their fair share of it.

In my opinion, this restaraunt is one of the best in Brighton. Totally reliable, fresh food, friendly and relaxed.my only frusration is that, despite this, anyone who reads chinese seem to get the more interesting hotpot/stew dishes which I long to try. Stick it on the English menu please!

Visited for lunch May Bank Holiday Monday. First impressions were good, the restaurant is light and airy, and we were the only westerners visiting; all the other diners were Chinese which was greatly encouraging. Every member of staff was extremely welcoming, guided us through the menu and were generally cheerful and helpful. One waitress steered us away from ordering too many main courses as our eyes were bigger than our bellies! Not often you get that. Salt & pepper prawns between us as a starter were more than sufficient. Great big plump tender tasty prawns sprinkled with loads of chilli - my husband was in seventh heaven. For main course we had crispy seaweed, sweet and sour fillet pork, crispy chilli beef and noodles with beansprouts. Gars beat them on the pork (they serve it in goujons, here it was tiny pieces) but nevertheless everything was delicious and plentiful. Without prompting they offered a doggy bag to take the leavings which we happily accepted. We had a very acceptable bottle of house white with the meal for just under a tenner, and our glasses were regularly topped up. All in all, a very happy experience which hopefully will be repeated soon.

This is without doubt the best Chinese restaurant outside London. The menu is great, food is superbly cooked, and the ingredient is fresh and of excellent quality and the service is fantastic. I take my family their at least once per month.
