welcome was very good, as was service overall. belly dancer was a novelty. set menu was varied, other than 2 choices of duck & both served with mash ! calamari was EXCELLENT & lamb shank tagines melted in the mouth. good venue for group parties due to the novelty factor. low chairs a little challnging for diners with long legs. set menu price of £21 for 2 courses maybe a little expensive & probably due to paying the belly dancer her fees for the night.

would go back again & would recommend to friends.

This is has to be the best I have ever been. I travel a lot and as part of my profession I eat out a lot. Somehow I felt very comfortable in mascara. Food was fantastic, atmosphre undiscribable and service next to none.

What a food and atomsphere not forgetting the service. This place is so good and value for money. We all enjoyed our time there and wil definitly recommend it.

Best restaurant in Brighton. We will difinitly go back again.

Fantastic. the restauarant opened especially for us last Monday night for our son's birthday, we felt so guilty that the appalling weather meant that additional business was almost none existent. The atmosphere was cosy, the service was impeccable, the food had all the presentation of nouvelle cuisine but as it was served on flying saucer sized plates the portions sizes were excellent, as was the quality. They were happy to bring our own birthday cake to the table with full ceremony ( a very poor offering in comparison to everything else we had eaten that evening!!)The biggest surprise was the price. For six of us the entire food and drink bill, including a very palatable bottle of champagne came to less than £135. You would be mad not to give this place a try. My son is a Brighton resident and wished that he had tried it earlier. Return visits are definitely on the cards.

My partner and I visited the restaurant on a Thursday evening. First impressions were good, the guy working front of house came straight over and gave us the choice of tables.

The atmosphere was lovely, a great size restaurant seating 40 max I'd say. The decor was also great, authentic north African, making you feel as though you were sitting in one of Marrakech's riads.

The menu was intriguing to say the least, but well explained by the waiting staff. My partner opted for a pigeon starter which we thoroughly enjoyed and the rest of the meal was of equally high standard.

We both had an aperitif, starter, main, dessert and a bottle of house wine and were more than pleasantly suprised when the bill came to £65.

We would definitely visit Mascara again based on food, ambience, great staff and value for money.

My HB and I had actually planned on trying out a different restaurant the night we ended up at Mascara, but the original option was closed for refurbishments. I'm glad it was. We had a superb evening. The food was faultless, the service excellent and the atmosphere fantastic. The only down side is that we a re both quite tall and the tables are very low! Having said that we will be going back...very soon.

I had been meaning to try Mascara for ages so got some friends together for my husband's birthday on Saturday and was so glad on that decision. Tops for atmosphere that was aided by the decor, music and belly dancing - not to mention other customers enjoying themselves. The food specialty as far as I was concerned was the very tender lamb tagine - in a hot ceramic covered dish. Do order with your friends some cous cous on the side to soak up the sauce.

It made for a great evening out and my husband was delighted.

Looking at these reviews, I feel they may be slightly pretentious....or on drug combos.

I ate the most delicious of foods, as did my friends. I cannot fault the food here.

Ok the bogs were a tiny unfresh, but thats not them, its us.

Good value for money, nice spot, friendly service and the food was so good.
